Ford has revamped its baby EcoSport SUV (and it comes with all-wheel drive)

Buyers can even specify a B&O PLAY stereo system from Bang & Olufsen.

THE FORD ECOSPORT is getting a makeover for 2018 with refreshed styling, some new engines, a more upmarket specification and for the first time – the choice of all-wheel drive.

Sitting beneath the Edge and Kuga, the EcoSport is Ford’s smallest SUV, and the new model achieves a look that gives it more of a family resemblance.

Inside, Ford has made more significant improvements to the cabin, which has a similar appearance to the new Fiesta. This update, combined with a restructuring of the specification grades, see features like an eight-inch colour touchscreen become standard.

This touchscreen now features the new SYNC 3 infotainment system that includes Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. Buyers can even specify a B&O PLAY stereo system from Bang & Olufsen. Ambient lighting and higher quality materials also help to lift the cabin.

The engine lineup will start with a 125hp 1.0-litre EcoBoost petrol engine, and this will also be available with a more powerful 140hp version, with Ford claiming a combined fuel consumption figure of 5.8 litres/100km for the former.

Ford will continue to offer a diesel engine in the form of an all-new 1.5-litre EcoBlue turbocharged unit. This 100hp engine claims to provide a combined consumption figure of 4.1 litres/100km.

In Ireland, the new EcoSport will come in Titanium and ST-Line specifications. The Titanium grade will start from €26,900 and will include a rearview camera, keyless start, cruise control with speed limiter and a partial leather trim, along with an eight-inch SYNC 3 system and DAB radio. The ST-Line will carry similar equipment inside but gets a unique body kit with less of an off-road theme.
