LUAS SERVICES have now returned to normal after an earlier disruption to services on the Red Line.

Services in both directions had been disrupted after a tram failed on the line at Fatima station, putting an immediate halt to inbound services.

Outbound services were later disrupted as the tram was towed away, though services have now resumed and are now running on a full schedule.

  • I get that line on my way to work. Alot of people were late getting to work today each platform along the way was packed with people waiting for news. Not everyone is there to shoplift and score drugs the line serves the city centre and the docklands which are where a large number of people work.

Although I have seen my fair share of hairy incidents and dodgy characters on the red line – saw a guy actually take out what I presummed was a little bag of cocaine once showing it off to his friends who were also quite dodgy looking. But yeah some serious social problems not just on that line but in the city centre in general – junkies and rough types fighting in public.

  • That’s disgraceful – half the passengers won’t get into town on time to shoplift and score drugs now.

  • In the meantime, Cork-Mallow has been messed up all day, and will be messed up for at least the start of the day tomorrow. Judging by the way the time to fix has been constantly slipping by Irish Rail, it’s optimistic to think that only early morning trains will be affected tomorrow. 6,000 passengers a day affected between InterCity routes and local commuter traffic.

And is there a peep about it in the national media?

    Thought not.

    • 60,000 people use the red line a day, and it is the capital causes alot more disruption. your 6000 figure is less than half that.

    • Red line was out of action for a couple of hours. Cork-Mallow problems have been ongoing since last night and will still be a problem tomorrow.

60,000 use the LUAS every day, not the red line. And not all red line users use the affected section.

The fact it was in the capital makes no difference to the amount of disruption caused.

  • I wish there was a tram that serviced a greater chunk of the northside, the dart and bus are infrequent in the likes of portmarnock!
