Poll: Do you think the Luas drivers are right to strike today and tomorrow?

The impasse between Luas operator Transdev and the tram drivers will see a full strike on the service at the height of the 1916 commemorations.

TODAY IS THE day the 1916 celebrations kick in properly.

A day of commemoration begins at 10am with a state parade in Dublin before an official ceremony at the centrepiece of the rising, the GPO.

600,000 visitors are expected to pass through Dublin over today and tomorrow, and all such people are being advised to use public transport as major traffic restrictions are in place until Tuesday. However, one of the major public transportation hubs won’t be operating – the Luas tram drivers are on strike.

Regardless of your views on the company’s workers’ pay demands, do you think they are entitled to strike on such a landmark day for the Irish state?

We’re asking: Should the Luas drivers be striking on Easter Sunday and Easter Monday?

Poll Results:

No, it's disrespectful and unfair to the public (18031)
No, they have a right to strike but not today (6599)
Yes, it's their right (2441)
I don't know (263)
