Mother charged over murder of 11-year-old Emily Barut in 2012

The 11-year-old was a wheelchair user and had both mental and physical disabilities.

BERNADETTE SCULLY HAS been charged with the murder of her 11-year-old daughter.

The 56-year-old appeared before Tullamore District this morning after being arrested at her home at 9:40 am.

Emily Barut’s body was found at her home at Bachelor’s Walk, Tullamore, September 15, 2012. Her mother was also found unconscious in the house.

The 11-year-old was a wheelchair user and had both mental and physical disabilities.

Bernadette Scully is being remanded in custody and is due to appear at a sitting of Tullamore District Court this Wednesday.

RTÉ has reported that a solicitor for Ms Scully asked that a medical assessment be carried out on her while she is in custody.
