US PRESIDENT BARACK Barack Obama signed a bill Sunday approving $9.7 billion in emergency disaster aid for victims of superstorm Sandy, after a delay sparked outrage among East Coast Republicans against their own party leadership.

Obama signed the measure into law shortly after arriving back at the White House following his family vacation in Hawaii.

The new law provides the Federal Emergency Management Agency with funds to pay the flood insurance claims of thousands of victims of the killer late October storm that devastated coastal communities in New York, New Jersey and neighbouring northeastern states.

It also boosts borrowing authority for the depleted National Flood Insurance Programme, which is meant to cover the roughly 120,000 Sandy-related claims filed to date.

FEMA has said the program would have run dry next week without additional funds.

But it is just a small wedge of the comprehensive $60.4 billion package sought by the White House for victims of the storm, which killed 120 people and destroyed tens of thousands of homes and businesses.

The Senate approved the larger bill on December 28, but Republican House Speaker John Boehner, who was stung by fractious negotiations over the deal to avert the “fiscal cliff” crisis, refused to bring it to the floor.

Obama joined New Jersey’s outspoken Republican governor, Chris Christie, in leading the charge against Boehner’s delay, which Christie described as “absolutely disgraceful.”

Boehner scrambled to tamp down fury, quickly announcing a two-part vote. The remaining $51 billion of the package is now set to come to a vote on January 15.

  • Phil, the governor of New Jersey did not oppose the release of funds to help the residents of his own state. He spoke out against his own party because they were delaying the bill that released the funds.

  • An insolvent Government Agency getting funds from a broke Government. That should also be a story.

  • The problem with the 911 conspiracy is when you tell one of the conspiracy theorist’s, the amount of construction work nesscary to bring down 110 stories
    It would require

    1.heavy equipment

    2.multiple teams of demolition experts

3.approximately 6months of physical work on the buildings.

4.100000 people worked in the twin towers hardly easy to not be detected. (Not to mention tourists with cameras/phones)

    5. No demolition cord ever found in the Wtc rubble (even a 20story demolition leaves a huge amount of cord)

6.theorist then come up with “nano” explosives undetectable blah blah blah no proof.

7.So the USA the most powerful country in the world can hoodwink the New Yorkers but little old Jim Corr is too “clever” and somehow has access to prove differently? (C’mon get real)

8.The sheer scale of people involved in the cover up would be in the thousands.

    9.finally Occam’s razor (Google it)

Your article failed to state why the “outspoken” governer opposed the bail out.

  • mr president its about time you had a real investigation in to what happened on 911.

    • Oh dearie me!

    • Dermot the government will never do such a thing. While evidence after evidence has come out proving it was a inside job, the people on the inside are hardly going to investigate themselves

    • Yea well done cholly you can say idiots and laugh to yourself. Can you have a debate on whether it was an inside job? Because I got hours of footage saying it does and proving it. Ill start off by stating how 90% of victims family members believe the government did it.

    • And theres hours of footage disproving all those mad conspiracies, from Kennedy, to the NOT moon landing, to 911, Pearl harbour, X Files, Ghosts, leprechauns etc. There is no point in even mentioning these debunking programs on the Discovery Channel as you chaps would all probably say that this is all official smokescreen.

Do you honestly give Bush, his cronies and the 100′s (1’000s?) of builders, welders, explosive experts, airline officials, military etc credit for keeping 911 conspiracies secret? I suppose you don’t believe in Wikileaks – even that lot call this a false conspiracy.

      Get a grip!

I’m sure there are some dark secrets out there, but not on this scale! This is the Bush administration were talking about here!

    • ,if you take a pool ball and drop it from 110 stories it takes nine seconds to reach the bottom ,north tower fell in nine seconds south tower fell in ten seconds ,fifty thousand plus tons of structural steel in both these towers showed no resistance to the collapse ,second point 2.3 thrilion dollars went missing the day prior to 911 according to rumsfeld and all the evidence went down with the fall of world trade 7 a building with 35000 tons of structural steel that collapsed in its own foot print with a couple of fires the reason it fell ,

    • See Paul what you said was rubbish going on about ghosts or something but you can’t change my mind I’ve done to much research into it. However you can have a debate with dermott here he seems interested in talking to you about why you’ve been lied to and somehow believed what the news said.

    • Kevin that’s because there’s nothing to debate. Trying to have a logical conversation would be like talking to the wall. My diagnosis, clear case of cannabis induced paranoia

      Reply
    • Cannabis? What in the world has cannabis got to do with 9/11?

Are you saying I’m paranoid? Because I never get paranoid yet one of my friends is and it has to do with his anxiety levels, he doesn’t use cannabis yet when he went to Amsterdam he vaporised and it rid him of his anxiety for hours. Yet we can’t get him any cannabis of medicinal value here because its illegal.

9/11 aside I think your a fool for thinking it causes paranoia you’ve clearly never read up on the subject

    • Did your research involve conspiracy debunking also? You need to look at all sides – then make your decision. Or did you find (on the internet) what you wanted to find or just those items that you were looking for?

Was your research collected from authorative sources and cross checked against more authorative sources? Or is this against conspiracists’ rules?

The problem here is that (probably) most of your sources could be deemed “crackpot” by most? Or is that what most of us are supposed to think – with only the few of you really knowing whats going on.

I suppose that is the nature of the conspiracist – only the handful of you know. Unfortunately you are in the company of wackos, nutters, looneys, right wing extremists, left wing extremists, fundamentalists, mentalists etc – so its hard for the majority to believe in you. It all makes a great story though!

I dont believe in ghosts, angels, spirits, demons, ghoulies etc but I do accept that there has to be life on other planets somewhere, somewhen – due to the infinitive numbers of planets around the place. But the chances of some of these aliens being amongst us is so mega tiny slim to none – IMHO of course.
