Peaches Geldof continues family tradition of unusual names

Astala might come from the Norwegian word for ‘love’ or, according to new mum and sister to Fifi Trixibelle, Pixie and Tiger Lily, it’s a Jewish name.

PEACHES GELDOF, WHO told Twitter two years ago that her name was “ridiculous”, has named her first son Astala.

The name is actually a traditional Jewish one, according to Geldof, who had already revealed it in February this year saying: “We found (it) in a baby name book – quite an obscure one. We wanted something unusual but not ridiculous.” According to a Yahoo! parenting blog, the name is derived from a Norwegian word for “love”.

The baby boy’s full name is Astala Dylan Willow Cohen-Geldof, and he was born on Saturday to Geldof and her fiancé Thomas Cohen (@tomfromscum, as his Twitter fans might know him). Peaches tweeted these on the day:

For his part, Cohen tweeted:

Peaches, of course, is one of the exotically-monikered children of Dubliner Bob Geldof and the late Paula Yates. She has two sisters, Fifi Trixibelle and Pixie, and a half-sister, Heavenly Hiraani Tiger Lily Hutchence Geldof  – daughter of Yates and the late Michael Hutchence.

And in case you wondered how she felt about her name…
