Official takeover by Element Pictures rubberstamped this morning – and the cinema is looking as colourful as ever.

THE PROMISED OFFICIAL relaunch of the Light House cinema in Smithfield took place this morning.

As reported in TheJournal.ie last Friday, the independent cinema had been earmarked as a venue for the upcoming Jameson Dublin International Film Festival and that Element Pictures had won the right to run the cinema. Then yesterday came a photocall notification that the cinema would be officially opened under the new management of Element Pictures.

The cinema has negotiated a “sensible” rent with Nama and the landlord – the previous incumbents had found themselves owing substantial back rent and facing a twofold increase under the original lease.

The opening schedule for the weekend includes WE, J. Edgar, Shame and The Artist.

This was the scene at the Light House this morning. We were glad to see the multi-coloured furnishings were still intact…
