Man arrested over attempted murder of PSNI officer

The 36-year-old male was arrested in relation to the attempted murder on 30 December 2012.

A 36-YEAR-OLD man has been arrested in relation to the attempted murder of a police officer late last year.

Detectives from the serious crime branch of the PSNI are continuing to investigate the 30 December incident, in which a viable explosive device was found under the car of a police officer on the Upper Newtownards Road, East Beflast.

At the time of the incident, Assistant Chief Constable George Hamilton said that the device was “clearly intended to kill the police officer” and that the officer’s family and neighbours had also been put at serious risk by the device.

The arrest was made in the west Belfast area this morning and the arrested party has been taken to the Antrim Serious Crime Suite for questioning.
