Man in his 60s arrested in Savile probe

The man, who has not been identified, is the sixth person arrested as part of the Scotland Yard investigation into sexual abuse in the 1970s.

A MAN IN his 60s has been arrested on suspicion of sexual offences as part of the investigation which began over allegations of sex abuse by presenter Jimmy Savile.

The man is the sixth person arrested as part of the Scotland Yard investigation.

The Metropolitan Police in London confirmed that the man was arrested at 6.45am today and was brought to a police station in south London for questioning.

The man falls under the “others” strand of the investigation, which means that his offences are not directly connected with Savile.

Comedian Freddie Starr, celebrity publicist Max Clifford and singer Gary Glitter are among the others who have also been arrested and bailed in connection with the wide-ranging investigation.

“The man from London was arrested at 06:45hrs on suspicion of sexual offences and has been taken into a south London police station,” police said in a statement.

“The individual falls under the strand of the investigation we have termed ‘Others’. We are not prepared to discuss further.”
