2. #ECTH: An Bord Pleanála has given the green light to the enormous Europe China Trading Hub planned for Athlone, Co Westmeath. The development will include exhibition halls, a five-star hotel resort, a hospital, a school – and anticipates a new international airport being built close by.
3. #MOTORING: The motor industry has urged the Government to introduce a “second numberplate” system, so that cars bought in the second half of the year would carry a different registration. An industry body said the move could raise €20million in new car sales.
4. #MORTGAGES: Good news for more than 70,000 home owners – Permanent TSB has announced it is to cut its interest rate by 0.5 per cent. The move means a customer with a €200,000 mortgage will see their monthly payment drop by €52.
5. #OCTOMOM: But it’s not looking so rosy for ‘Octomom’ Nadya Suleman. The California woman who gave birth to octuplets in 2008 has filed for bankruptcy, months after posing topless in an apparent attempt to raise money. She said: “I have to do what is best for my children.”
