AS FLOODWATERS ROSE and some 200 people were forced to evacuate parts of Tuscany, holidaymakers in Venice did not let the fact that 70 per cent of the city was flooded spoil their time in the famous city.
Venetians and tourists were forced to don high boots and use wooden walkways to cross St Mark’s Square and other areas that were under water.
Flooding is common this time of year in the historic city and yesterday’s level reached a peak of 58.66 inches (149 centimetres) was below the 63 inches (160 centimetres) recorded four years ago in the worst flooding in decades.
