ADELE HAS BEEN named Britain’s richest ever female musician. The singer and songwriter rose to 30th place overall in the 2016 Sunday Times list of the wealthiest performers and composers in the UK and Ireland.

The 27-year-old has almost doubled her fortune since last year, from €64 million to €109 million, after a successful tour and third album.

The ranking is topped by Paul McCartney, who shares €974 million with his wife Nancy Shevell, up €38 million on last year.

The Rolling Stones – Mick Jagger, worth €301 million; Keith Richards, €282 million; Charlie Watts, €154 million; and Ronnie Wood, €71 million – are the wealthiest band on the list, ahead of third-ranking U2, worth €641 million.

Ireland’s richest female performer is Enya, whose €117 million fortune has her in 28th position. Riverdance performer Michael Flatley came in ninth place with an estimated €254 million wealth.

David Bowie’s widow and his son by his first marriage, Iman Abdulmajid and Duncan Jones, join this year’s ranking with a joint family fortune of €115 million, based on the €90 million from Bowie’s will, royalties from the chart success of his music after his death and their own wealth.

The full Sunday Times rich list will be published by the newspaper this weekend.

The list is based on identifiable wealth, including land, property, other assets such as art and racehorses, or significant shares in publicly traded companies. It excludes bank accounts.
