'We upgraded everything': The family selling this Longford home share what made it stand out

As Anna and Jack prepare to relocate, they’re saying goodbye to their Longford home.

“WE REALLY SAW the potential in this house. It needed a lot of work but structurally, it was brilliant. We had a great base to work with.”

Anna Mucha and her husband Jack had a clear vision when they moved into their home in Polladooey, near Aughnacliffe, Co Longford in 2018.

Back then, the four-bed dormer bungalow was “in bad condition” and had an outdated heating and plumbing system. But it sat on two acres of land and was in a tranquil location close to some of Longford’s beautiful lakes.

With Jack’s DIY skills, the couple knew they’d be able to upgrade the four-bed dormer into the modern home of their dreams without too much extra spending on contractors.

These days, the property is a bright, stylish and contemporary home, with nods to Anna and Jack’s personal tastes throughout: the sleek wraparound kitchen, for example, has deep green panelling, with futuristic pendant lights hanging above the workspace.

It’s a completely different home to the one Anna and Jack stepped inside four years ago – but it’s one they’re waving goodbye to as they prepare to move back to their home country of Poland, following 17 years in Ireland.

The house was taken to market by local agent John Columb, and is now sale agreed. “Anyone that viewed the house really loved it,” says John.

It got a great reaction. A lot of 1970s dormers can be dark inside but this one has been totally transformed. I did eight or nine viewings and there were two bidders really interested right away.

The property attracted even more attention, John notes, because the vendors used a Daft Advantage ad on Daft.ie.

“Whenever people searched for houses in the area, this house was one of the first they’d see,” he says.

Anna really understood the benefits from the beginning and could see that it was a smart option for her.

Located five minutes’ drive from the small village of Gowna and 25 minutes from Longford, the property has access to plenty of local amenities. There’s a 90-minute commute by car to Dublin city centre, but with one of the four bedrooms currently in use as a home office, the home would suit remote workers too.

Anna and Jack’s commitment to their vision is evident in every square foot of this home. “We started over and replaced everything,” says Anna, of the new floors, doors and windows. Jack worked with contractors to install new heating, plumbing and wiring along the way too.

The layout remains the same as it was, although both the living room and kitchen doors were removed to open the space up more. And last autumn, the couple added a final touch: a patio and decking area to the rear of the house.

“We didn’t get the chance to make the most of it because we missed the summer weather, but we’ve had a few sunny days out there, and it’ll be one for the new owners to enjoy,” says Anna.

With so many upgrades and such attention to detail, the house was an “exciting” one for John to bring to market – and he knew that a Daft Advantage ad would give it an extra chance to shine.

These ads secure a premium position and more listing views on Ireland’s leading property platform, helping vendors to bring in as much interest as possible for their property.

As a Daft Premier Partner, the team at John Columb & Co are able to offer Daft Advantage positions to sellers. They were the first agent in Longford to partner with Daft in this way, something John says has given them the edge over competitors:

The ads look great, and if a buyer is scrolling through listings, our ad will catch their eye straight away, which is a huge help to us.

Daft.ie is Ireland’s leading real estate platform. Daft Advantage upgrades are available exclusively through Premier Partner agents to maximise your chances of a great sale. You don’t sell a home every day – so when you do, give it every opportunity to get the very best return.
