Protesters gather at Carlow event Tánaiste attending

It comes after two rallies were held yesterday demonstrating against the jailing of five water protesters on Thursday.

A PROTEST IS being held outside a hotel in Carlow where the Tánaiste is attending a Labour event.

The Lord Bagenal Hotel said that the protesters were outside and that the hotel has security at the door.

It’s understood that around 20 people have gathered.

It comes after two rallies were held yesterday demonstrating against the jailing of five water protesters on Thursday.

It was also announced yesterday that two prisoners, Derek Byrne and Paul Moore are on hunger strike.

The Tánaiste is attending the selection of Councillor Willie Quinn for the Carlow-Kilkenny by-election tonight.

Speaking at the event, he said: “We haven’t always got it right and it hasn’t been easy and I want to acknowledge the sacrifices that people have made to get us to the point where we can now confidently target full employment by 2018.”
