Aoife and Saoirse, Finn and Noah - Ireland's ten most popular baby names

Girls’ names like Eabha and Shauna were not so popular while Feidhlim and Erik were on the bottom of the list of boys’ names.

THIS WEEK, THE Department of Foreign Affairs revealed James is now the most popular name for baby boys in Ireland, overtaking Jack.

In 2016, Emily was the most popular girl’s name, chosen by the parents of 116 baby girls.

The full list of last year’s baby names, provided to TheJournal.ie, shows Amelia and Olivia were also popular names for girls, while Jack and Daniel were popular choices for baby boys.

Girls’ names like Eabha, Shauna and Sorcha were low on the list. There were 32 Sienna’s, 65 Sofia’s and 23 Mila’s.

On the bottom of the boy’s list was Feidhlim, Erik and Éanna. No one chose to name their baby boy Enda last year.
