THERE HAVE BEEN two security alerts in Belfast today with at least one viable device found by police.
PSNI officers are currently at the scene of an ongoing situation in the Glencolin Walk area of West Belfast after a suspicious object was found.
A number of roads in the area have been closed and the site has been sealed off. Police have no further details about the nature of the object found.
The alert comes a number of hours after an earlier security alert, also in West Belfast, resulted in police finding a ‘viable device’.
That alert was in the nearby Ramoan Drive and residents were evacuated before the device was removed by explosives experts.
The alerts come a day after a prison officer was injured when a car bomb exploded in the city.
The attack led to warnings from a top police officer that dissident republicans may be planning to mark the centenary of the Easter Rising with increased attacks.
