Victim of Cork murder named locally as Nicola Collins (38)

A man in his 40s was arrested at the scene and is currently detained at Mayfield Garda Station.

A GARDA INVESTIGATION has been launched after the body of a young mother was found in a Cork home overnight.

A man is being held following the discovery of the body of Nicola Collins in the Popham’s Road area of Farranree area of Cork city at about 3am this morning.

A man in his 40s was arrested at the scene and is currently detained at Mayfield Garda Station.

An incident room has been established at Mayfield Garda Station and a family liaison officer has been appointed in this case.

A garda spokesman said: “Gardaí are appealing for witnesses or to anyone who can assist with the investigation to contact Mayfield Garda Station on 021 4558510, the Garda Confidential Line 1800 666 111 or any Garda Station.”
