Man's body recovered from sea off Cork coast
It was a busy night for Ireland’s Coast Guard units with two separate search operations mounted last night.
A MAN’S BODY was recovered from the sea off the Cork coast overnight.
The Castletownbere Lifeboat and the Shannon Coast Guard helicopter were involved in the search after the man’s teenage son raised the alarm at about 9pm yesterday.
The man, who was in his 60s, and his 18-year-old were in their dingy when it capsized off Cod’s Head in Cork Monday evening.
RTÉ’s Morning Ireland reports that he has been named locally as John O’Leary from Barness in Allihies.
The Coast Guard said the weather conditions were not bad and they were near the shore when the vessel overturned. The teenage son, Christopher, had clung to the boat for about four hours before swimming to shore to raise the alarm.
In a separate incident, a search has resumed off the coast of county Clare where two local fishermen have been missing since yesterday evening.
