A WOMAN WAS attacked by two men in a carjacking in Longford yesterday evening.
At about 5.55pm the woman in her 40s was confronted at knifepoint by two men as she returned to her car at a car park on Ballymahon Street.
The woman was forced into her car by the men and driven away at speed.
Gardaí spotted the car and followed it. The car crashed into a ditch on the Athlone Road shortly afterwards.
The woman was then taken by ambulance to Mullingar Hospital. She is now receiving treatment to her injuries – which are described as not life threatening.
A young man in his 20s was also taken from the scene and brought to Tullamore Hospital – he’s reported to be in a critical condition.
A second man fled on foot but a man in his 20s was later arrested a short distance away. He’s being held at Longford Garda Station.
A technical examination of the car is currently underway and the investigation is ongoing.
Gardaí are appealing for witnesses to come forward. They are particularly appealing to anyone who was in the vicinity of a car park (known locally as Heaton’s Car Park) on Ballymahon St., Longford, between 5.30pm and 6pm to contact them.
Anyone with information is asked to contact Longford Garda Station 043 -3350570 or the Garda Confidential Line 1800 666 111.
