7 tips the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles could give the Irish team... just in time for the Euros

1. A good leader is important

Paramount Paramount

Every team needs good leadership and even when Splinter is angry with the Turtles, he remains calm and explains exactly what he wants from them.

There will be moments during the Euros when Martin O’Neill will want to give his players the hairdryer treatment but, like Splinter, the manager will need to be strong and calm, like a forest.

2. “Possess the right thinking. Only then can one receive the gifts of strength, knowledge, and peace.”

Paramount Paramount

A positive mental attitude is going to be crucial for Ireland over the coming weeks and it will only be when the lads get their minds right that they can let their football do the talking.

After what happened in 2012, it would be very easy for the Irish teams and supporters to go into this tournament feeling pessimistic but, as Greece and Denmark have shown in the past, anything is possible in a European Championships.

3. Teamwork is the only thing that gets the job done

Paramount Paramount

While each of the Turtles have their own individual strengths, it was only by combining them as a team that they were able to defeat Shredder.

Likewise, while Jon Walters, Wes Hoolahan and the lads have unique skills, it will only be as a unit that Ireland can achieve success in France.

4. “If I threatened you, I pushed you beyond your limits, it’s because I believe in you! I believe in each one of you! I believe in your spirit and your intelligence and your potential!”

Paramount Paramount

While it’s O’Neill’s job to keep calm, every now and then a team needs an extra bit of a push and Roy Keane is just the man for the job when it comes to reminding players of the success they can achieve through hard work.

Raphael almost waited until it was too late to tell his team. Hopefully Keane won’t make the same mistake in France.

5. Don’t be afraid to call for backup

Paramount Paramount

The Turtles certainly were not afraid to call for backup in the shape of April O’Neill and Casey Jones, and Ireland should not either.

There’s going to be a moment during the next few weeks when the team needs someone to spring from the bench to grab a crucial goal. Given what he did against Germany back in 2002, we’re looking at you Robbie Keane!

6. “Heroes are not born, they’re created”

Paramount Paramount

When Eric Sachs utters that line, he probably doesn’t mean it as a compliment to the Turtles but it really is.

Likewise, Ronnie Whelan, Packie Bonner, Ray Houghton (twice!) and Robbie Keane were not born heroes but became them in the eyes of Irish fans because of their exploits at major tournaments. Who’ll play that role at Euro 2016?

7. At the end of the day, enjoy yourselves!

Paramount Paramount

He may get a hard time from the rest of the Turtles because of his laid back nature but Michelangelo knows the secret to success is to relax and let the results come.

Likewise, the Irish team has already proven it’s capable of great things by beating Germany to help qualify for Euro 2016.

Everything from here is a bonus and maybe Shane Long can go one better and score the winning goal in a European Championships final against the world champions?
