CHELSEA MANNING COULD face indefinite solitary confinement for having banned items in her cell.
According to her lawyers, Manning is in trouble after being found in possession of items such as Vanity Fair’s Caitlyn Jenner issue, Malala Yousafzai’s autobiography and an expired tube of toothpaste.
The Guardian reports that Manning has allegedly been charged with four violations of custody, including showing “disrespect”, having displayed “disorderly conduct” by sweeping food onto the floor during dinner, keeping “prohibited property” (books and magazines) in her cell; and having committing “medicine misuse” (the toothpaste).
Manning’s lawyer Chase Strangio told Buzzfeed: “Given the materials that were confiscated, it is concerning that the military and Leavenworth [prison] might be taking action for the purpose of chilling Chelsea’s speech or even with the goal of silencing her altogether by placing her in solitary.”
The transgender former US army soldier is serving a 35-year military prison sentence for leaking thousands of official documents to Wikileaks.
