CHRISTMAS IS HERE.
Well not quite, but it is in Brown Thomas where the Christmas shop has just been launched.
The section – which opened in the Cork, Limerick and Dublin stores – promises to deliver “the most luxurious and stylish festive offerings”.
But do we really need all those decorations on sale 130 days before Christmas Day?
When asked what customer reaction is like, Brown Thomas Christmas buyer Edel Woods told TheJournal.ie:
It’s mixed, it’s always mixed. There’s the customer who’s obsessed with it and there’s the customer who’s disappointed to see it arrive so early but we open because we have demand for it.
We’ve always opened on the third week of August for years now, it feels earlier but no, it has always been that way.
“By the time we get to the end of November, we’re sold through on a lot of our special pieces.”
Woods also mentioned that the good stuff tends to go quickly, “People last year came in in November and were disappointed they couldn’t get the pieces they spotted earlier in the year.”
But she added that compared to our neighbours in England, we’re a bit more relaxed here.
“Harrods open its Christmas section in mid-July and Selfridges open at the start of August.”
So there you go now, tell us in the comments section if you’re the customer who loves to see Christmas decorations going on sale early – or if you don’t even want to think about it yet.
