Pics: Winner of Ireland's Christmas Tree Throwing Championship revealed

A distance of 8.6 metres claimed the title.

THE IRISH CHRISTMAS Tree Throwing Championship took place in Clare yesterday.

Over 250 people made their way to Ennis to have a go at throwing a 1.5 metre tree the longest distance.

The Championship is based on age-old lumberjack traditions and is very popular in Germany and Austria.

And the winner is…

Limerick man John O’Dea reclaimed the Irish Christmas Tree Throwing Championship title when he threw his Christmas tree 8.6 metres. He last won in 2013.

The winner of the Ladies section was Audrey Kavanagh (4.1m) while the Under 12 section was won by Shane Kenny from County Clare

All proceeds raised went to ISPCC Childline.
