A WEXFORD-BASED medical devices manufacturer has completed a major expansion of its Enniscorthy facility which it says could accommodate up to 200 new jobs.
Clearstream Technologies already employees 410 people at the site and is primarily involved in the manufacture of minimally invasive medical devices such as catheters and stents.
Announcing the completion of the 50,000 sq.ft expansion, Clearstream says that it will support expected growth up to 2019 and has “the potential to accommodate up to an additional 200 new positions, based upon need”.
Clearstream was bought out by New Jersey based company CR Bard in 2011 with Jobs Minister Richard Bruton saying that he has met company executives twice on recent trade missions.
“In our discussions with CR Bard it has been clear that this is a really ambitious company with big plans for its operations in Enniscorthy,” the minister said.
The minister added that medical devices are a “key sector” for Ireland, a sentiment echoed by IDA Ireland CEO Martin Shanahan:
Strengthening the Life Sciences cluster in the South East in this way gives the region added impetus for future growth. The company has been a substantial employer in the region and the potential to add further jobs is very welcome.
Clearstream has added 160 positions at the Enniscorthy facility since the CR Bard takeover in 2011, with 100 of these jobs added since July.
Director of operations at Clearstream Pauline Oakes says that the expansion is a “significant commitment” to the Enniscorthy site.
She said it will allow them to, “leverage potential growth opportunities in the future which is very positive for us and for the South East region.”
