Cliff Richard: Sex crime claim 'completely false'

The search is not believed to be connected to Operation Yewtree.

POLICE ARE SEARCHING a property belonging to entertainer Sir Cliff Richard after receiving reports of an alleged sex offence.

South Yorkshire police said a search warrant was granted after they received an allegation of a sexual nature dating back to the 1980s, involving a boy who was under the age of 16 at the time.

Richard says the historic sex crime claim is ‘completely false’, saying in a statement:

For many months I have been aware of allegations against me of historic impropriety which have been circulating online. The allegations are completely false.

No one was been arrested and it is believed Richard is not present at the property, which is in Sunningdale in Berkshire.

The search is not related to Operation Yewtree, the BBC reports.
