Cocaine worth €385,000 and parts of 8 stolen vehicles seized

Gardaí carried out 419 searches and arrested 89 people during a planned operation nationwide yesterday.

A LATE NIGHT raid resulted in the discovery of €385,000 worth of cocaine, cash and drug paraphernalia at a property in Tallaght yesterday.

A 34-year-old man was arrested at the scene in Cushlawn Park after officers found about 5.5kg of the illegal substance.

The search was undertaken as part of a major operation, dubbed Operation Wireless, targeting serious criminal activity across the country.

A total of 419 planned searches were carried out since yesterday morning, resulting in 89 arrests for a range of offences such as robbery, burglary, theft, handling stolen property and possession of drugs and firearms. About 20 people were detained on foot of bench warrants, while five European arrest warrants were also executed by the Organised Crime Unit and the extradition section of garda headquarters.

Those five suspects are due to appear before the High Court in relation to a range of offences, including extortion, fraud and assault.

During a separate search at a yard in the Balbriggan area, gardaí, officials from the Social Protection Department and Revenue customs’ officers recovered parts from up to eight stolen vehicles.
