THE SELF-STYLED ‘King of Instagram’, Dan Bilzerian, has announced his candidacy for the US presidency in 2016 it seems.
Bilzerian, a professional poker player (amongst other things) who is worth something in the region of €100 million, has amassed almost 10 million followers on Instagram (and even more on Facebook) where he parades his, ahem, exotic lifestyle at every available opportunity.
He has created a kind of social media infamy for himself by flaunting his lifestyle of money, glamour, guns, and a never-ending cavalcade of large-breasted women.
Quite why he has decided to run for President of the United States is less clear. For starters it sounds like a lot less fun than what he gets up to at present.
But running it seems he is, with the whole thing to be officially kicked off at an enormous party on 24 June at the mega-exclusive Marquee Club in New York City (for the admittedly slightly less- than-exclusive price of $40).
Fortunately the 34-year-old will turn 35 in time for the election (America, like Ireland, requires its presidents to be at least that age before taking office).
Last Christmas Bilzerian posted a photo of himself and Republican Congressman Dana Rohrabacher together and holding a pair of shotguns, which was as close as he had come to the political arena before now.
Whether this infers he’ll be running as a Republican remains to be seen.
If the whole thing sounds a little unlikely, one thing is certain – Bilzerian is definitely selling campaign merchandise via his website.
Up to now the man’s more philanthropic acts include being banned from Snapchat for posting an explicit photo of a model, and getting sued for throwing a pornographic actress off a roof.
Actually, we take it back, he sounds perfect for politics.
Bilzerian’s ‘common touch’ mostly involves him posting photos of how incredibly wealthy he is so he may not have Hilary Clinton quaking in her boots just yet.
Still, given Voldemort is currently polling better than most Republican presidential candidates, perhaps it won’t be entirely a wasted campaign.
