DONALD TRUMP’S US presidential bid has been dealt a blow after a top strategist has left his campaign.
The parting has not been amicable.
Trump claimed to have fired Roger Stone, but the aide denied this. He tweeted saying it was he who gave Trump the boot over comments he made about Megyn Kelly.
In a Republican debate on Fox on Thursday night, Kelly hit Trump with a string of tough questions on controversial comments he’s made about migrants and women.
In a later interview with CNN Trump said he didn’t respect Kelly as a journalist before claiming she had “blood coming out her eyes” and “blood coming out of her … wherever.”
The comments sparked outrage. Trump denied he was suggesting Kelly was on her period, saying he was actually talking about blood coming out of her nose.
Trump said the backlash was led by “politically correct fools”.
In another interview with CNN today, Trump said only a “deviant” would think he was discussing menstruation.
I said nothing wrong whatsoever.
I cherish women. Who would make a statement like that? Only a sick person would even think about it.
The businessman has been the frontrunner in the Republican field, regularly topping polls.
He has previously come under fires for saying Mexican immigrants were “bringing drugs and bringing crime and they’re rapists”.
Trump later said he loves Latinos and will win their vote.
