Dublin City Council calls on citizens to report stockpiling for Halloween bonfires

The council says it wants to promote a safe season, reminding citizens that any and all bonfires are illegal.

DUBLIN CITY COUNCIL has asked people to get in contact if they believe anyone is stockpiling materials for bonfires.

In the lead up to Halloween, the council says it wants to promote a safe season, reminding citizens that any and all bonfires are illegal.

Dublin City Council can be reached on 222 2222 around the clock. Reports can also be made online through the citizen’s hub at https://citizenhub.dublincity.ie/WasteManagement.

Dublin Fire Brigade is “not in a position” to take reports or collect material.

“We have crews available on call out of hours on the Northside and Southside to assist Gardaí and remove material,” the council said.

“Business owners and residents are reminded that you are responsible for your waste and if it is found not to have been disposed of correctly, you could be held liable.”

Las year there were over 432 reports made about stockpiling, and Dublin City Council removed 441 tonnes of bonfire materials citywide during the Halloween period.

The council also gave advice to those who end up at or near unauthorised firework or bonfire events.

  • Never consume drugs or alcohol when using fireworks.
  • Make sure children stand at a safe distance.
  • Keep everyone well back from the display/fire.
  • Never return to a lit firework. Wait 20 minutes and place in a bucket of water.
  • Never throw fireworks.
