Eight men arrested on suspicion of rape of teenager in London

The offences are alleged to have occurred between May and November 2012.

EIGHT PEOPLE HAVE been arrested in London on suspicion of the rape of a girl who is under the age of 16.

Scotland Yard said officers attended nine addresses this morning in a pre-planned operation as part of the investigation into the alleged offences.

Five of the men are 23 years old, two are 24 and the youngest is 21 years old. They are all being questioned at an east London police station.

The inquiry was launched by detectives following an allegation relating to alleged offences between May and November last year.

“These arrests are part of an investigation into rape and serious sexual assault carried out by a group of men in Newham and the wider east London area. Our enquiries continue,” Detective Adam Lowe said in a brief statement.

During the searches, quantities of cash and drugs were also seized. A 26-year-old man and two women, aged 47 and 50, were arrested on suspicion of fraud.
