Eircom pays €275k penalty for failing to repair faults equally

ComReg found that Eircom was repairing more faults to its own retail arm’s customers than that of other operators’ customers.

EIRCOM HAS PAID the communications regulator ComReg a penalty of €275,000 following a breach of its non-discrimination obligations to repair both retail and wholesale faults equally.

The company’s wholesale service serves more than 60 national and international service providers including O2, Vodafone, Verizon, Imagine and Perlico.

ComReg found that, on average, Eircom was repairing a higher percentage of faults to its own retail arm’s customers compared to faults of other operators’ customers.

The regulator said today that in addition to the penalty paid by Eircom, the company has committed to publicaton of detailed information regarding ongoing performance in relation to such repairs on a quarterly basis from July 2013.

“This will provide additional transparency to other authorised operators to enable them to demonstrate to their customers that Eircom provides an equivalent repair service to customers of other authorised operators,” it added.

ComReg said it will now continue to monitor the performance in this area to ensure ongoing compliance.
