AROUND 150 DRUG seizures were made over the weekend at the Electric Picnic in Stradbally, Co Laois.
The Gardai operation, which saw undercover officers operating among the 41,000 crowd, also saw 10 people arrested for theft.
A serious incident occurred on Friday night after two people, a man and a woman, were hospitalised in a tent fire. The fire, which occurred in the Pink Moon campsite, occurred after candles were lit in the couple’s tent.
The woman, in her late 30s, was brought to hospital with non-life threatening injures. The man, who was also hospitalised, had injuries that were not thought to be serious.
Last year a man received four months’ imprisonment for possession of two phones that had been stolen at the event. Jason Crean claimed that he had found one of the phones and had been given the other.
In anticipation of the festival, the Garda website issued a number of warnings to festival goers. Punters were reminded to avoid bringing valuable items into the campsites and to dress appropriately for the weather.
