Three dead, several injured as car goes on fire in Co Waterford crash

Gardaí have confirmed three males, believed to be adults, died in the crash.

THREE PEOPLE HAVE died and several others have been seriously injured after a two car crash in Co Waterford this morning.

It happened on the N72 on the outskirts of Dungarvan between the junctions of the N25 and R672 at around 10am.

One car went on fire. The six occupants of the other car were airlifted to hospitals in Cork and Waterford.

It’s understood that a number of children were involved in the crash.

It was initially reported that two people had lost their lives. That figure was updated to three this afternoon.

In a statement issued shortly before 7pm, gardaí confirmed that three males had died. Further details of their ages weren’t available, but all three are believed to have been adults.

Their remains have been removed to University Hospital Waterford for post-mortem examinations.

“Investigating gardaí are appealing for anyone with information or who may have travelled on this stretch of road to contact Dungarvan Garda Station on 058-48600, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111 or any Garda Station,” tonight’s statement said.

A stretch of road will remain closed overnight, with diversions in place.
