FOR MANY JOURNALISTS, the massacre at the Charlie Hebdo offices in Paris yesterday felt personal.
The death of ten journalists and cartoonists at the satirical magazine was an attack on the profession, on freedom of expression, and freedom of the press.
Today’s front pages reflects the sadness felt by many journalists – but also the anger and the defiance. Headlines, photographs and cartoons show the depth of these feelings.
Some front pages are a statement of intent: Le Parisien simply says “They will not murder freedom” over a photograph of people at a vigil in Paris. Others are more direct. The Independent in London shows a cartoon of a blood-stained hand on the front page of the Charlie Hebdo giving the middle finger.
Here are some of the most striking front pages from around the world today.
