INDEPENDENT SENATOR DAVID Norris this afternoon ended his campaign for the presidency after a series of controversies.

News of the statement, delivered from outside his home in Dublin, sparked strong reactions on Twitter. Many users were upset at his withdrawal – but some insisted he had done the right thing.
