Residents of homes in Deerpark Avenue in Tallaght were forced to leave as gardaí and the army bomb squad investigated the suspicious device.

THE EVACUATION OF a number of homes took place in Deerpark Avenue in Tallaght this morning after gardaí received a call about a suspicious device.

Gardaí told TheJournal.ie that the call about the device at Deerpark Avenue came in at around 10.45am and gardaí and the army’s Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) Team were soon on the scene.

They called for the evacuation of homes on the avenue, and investigated the device. It was discovered that the the device was a hoax. There were no injuries as a result of the incident.

The hoax is now under investigation.

Mayor of South Dublin County Council, Cathal King, told TheJournal.ie that there are a lot of young families living on Deerpark Avenue, so an incident such as this is worrying. “It’s not something that has happened before – this is a quiet estate,” said King.
