Intel chooses Ireland to design new micro chip
The Quark SoC X1000 and the Galileo board were both designed at the company’s plant in Leixlip in Co Kildare.
COMPUTER GIANT INTEL has unveiled its latest micro chip that was designed at the company’s plant in Leixlip in County Kildare.
The micro chip, known as the Quark SoC X1000 and the Intel Galileo board were both designed in Ireland by a task force of 70 staff.
Competitors
Intel chose Ireland over other competitors from Malaysia and the US.
It is viewed as a big coup in the tech world, as usually large American companies design their products in the US and have them manufactured elsewhere.
The chip will be used in devices and for machines that communicate with one another through an internet connection.
The IDA stated that it was testament to the “expertise and skills levels” of the Intel plant in Leixlip.
Intel currently employs more than 4,500 people in Ireland.
