'The Wind that Shakes the Barley' director Ken Loach to film in Ireland
The director of the 2006 Palme d’Or winner is to film “Jimmy’s Hall”.
AWARD-WINNING DIRECTOR Ken Loach is set to return to Ireland this summer to shoot a film inspired by the Irish communist leader Jimmy Gralton.
Loach has filmed in Ireland previously, shooting the 2006 Palme d’Or winner “The Wind that Shakes the Barley”, which remains one of the most successful Irish films of all time.
His upcoming film, entitled “Jimmy’s Hall”, will see him team up once again with screenwriter Paul Laverty who, alongside producer Rebecca O’Brien, plan to tell the story of Leitrim man Jimmy Gralton.
The plot centres on Gralton’s decision in 1921 to build a dance-hall at a rural crossroads in Ireland, which turns out to be a big mistake.
Shoot
Shooting in Ireland is due to commence in late summer and the film will be produced by Sixteen Films, Element Pictures and French partners, Why Not and Wild Bunch.
Financiers include Bord Scannán na hÉireann/the Irish Film Board.
