Gardaí investigating after Kildare school closed over 'security concern'
It is understood the threat was not viable or serious.

GARDAÍ ARE INVESTIGATING after a Kildare school closed for the day due to a security concern.

Scoil Dara in Kilcock posted a statement on its website last night, informing parents and students that the school would be closed today.

A statement from the board of management read:

“Following a meeting of the Board of Management of Scoil Dara late this evening, it has been decided to close the school to students tomorrow Tuesday, 5 December pending a safety risk assessment.

“Sincere apologies for the late notice and inconvenience.”

The statement did not elaborate on the safety risk.

TheJournal.ie understands that a message was found on a toilet wall which threatened a mass shooting at the school on 5 December. While it is also understood that this is not a viable or serious threat, the school was due to host a ceremony today and would have been busy. The decision was taken to close the school.

Gardaí were notified this morning. In a statement they said:

“We are investigating a matter that has been brought to our attention, in a school in Kildare, investigations are ongoing.”
