A SECTION OF Leinster House was evacuated earlier this evening due to a power surge.
It’s believed that the evacuation only applied to LH2000, a newer section of the building where the party offices are and Oireachtas committees meet.
“We were just finishing up work when the ushers came up and asked us to start evacuating offices,” a staffer for a political party told TheJournal.ie.
We were told it was because of a power surge. There has been electrical work going on in the area in the last few days.
We were told to leave but there doesn’t seem to be any major emergency. They weren’t too stressed when they were talking to us.
Several people who were in Leinster House at the time tweeted about the incident.
Mark Mulqueen, Head of Oireachtas Communications, said that the evacuation was a “precautionary safety measure”.
