This group of employees thought they had won the lottery and absolutely lost it

But they hadn’t double checked the numbers :(

THE POWERBALL LOTTERY is all anyone can go on about in the US these days, and with the total jackpot pushing near €900 million last weekend it’s easy to see why.

So on Saturday night, a group of 42 employees in an Italian restaurant in New Jersey gathered to hear the numbers after all pitching in.

So, the bartender of the restaurant received a text from a friend who got the numbers from the lottery website – and they had a full match. Needless to say the place erupted

All 42 staff members had paid into the pool for the Powerball – the jackpot stood at a cool €872 million for Saturday – but there was one catch.

The bartender had received the numbers for Wednesday night’s numbers instead of Saturday’s on his phone – but they didn’t realise for a solid 20 minutes.

The wild celebrations continued – with one declaring “I’m never washing another dish in my life”

Their story has now gone viral – as they uploaded the celebration footage to YouTube and TV news across the world have been all over it.

The bartender told Buzzfeed that he was gutted, but that the experience wasn’t all bad:

I wouldn’t trade that feeling for anything in the world. Even though we didn’t win, it was such a great feeling and something we will always have.

Aww.

And this evening they are appearing on CNN with their story, and sharing the journey on Facebook

They’re going to enter this weekend’s Powerball again.

Let’s just hope they double check the numbers this time.
