Man charged over killing of 16-year-old girl in Tallaght

Melanie McCarthy-McNamara was murdered in a drive-by shooting earlier this month.

A MAN HAS been charged in relation to the killing of 16-year-old Melanie McCarthy-McNamara in Tallaght, west Dublin earlier this month.

The 23-year-old will appear later today at Tallaght District Court. It’s understood he has been charged with murdering the teenager.

McCarthy-McNamara died after being shot in the head as she sat in the back of a Nissan Almera on Brookview Way in the west Dublin suburb on February 7. The shots came from a passing SUV.

Gardaí said at the time that they believed the teen may not have been the intended victim of the shooting.

Gardaí later recovered a firearm and a vehicle suspected to have been used in the incident Last week, two men – one in his early 20s and one in his late teens – were arrested in Athy, Co Kildare.
