Man still being questioned in connection with Aoife Phelan murder

The man in his mid 20s was arrested yesterday and is being questioned by Gardaí in Portlaoise.

A MAN ARRESTED in connection with the murder of missing 30-year-old Aoife Phelan is still being questioned by Gardaí this morning.

The man who in his mid 20s was arrested yesterday afternoon and is being held in Portlaoise Garda Station. He can be held for 24 hours.

The search for the missing Laois woman has intensified since the arrest yesterday afternoon. Aoife Phelan, who is pregnant, has not been seen since 25 October when she left a friend’s house just after 8pm.

Hundreds of people from the local community have been taking part in the search organised by Aoife’s family and friends around the area where she went missing.  A quarry, boglands, drains and disused farm yards were all searched as part of the effort by volunteers.
