Man shot dead in Dundalk

A man has been arrested in connection with the shooting which happened outside a house in Dundalk early this morning.

A 35-YEAR-OLD MAN has been shot and killed in Co. Louth this morning.

Gardaí are investigating the circumstances of the shooting in which two other people were also injured.

Shortly before 4am a taxi pulled up outside a house on Cluain Ard, Lis na Dara in Dundalk, and was approached by a lone man who fired a number of gunshots into the car.

The victim, who was sitting in the back seat of the car, was fatally injured.

Two other people were injured in the shooting. The 48-year-old male driver of the car and a 21-year-old woman received injuries which are not believed to be life threatening. They were taken to Our Lady of Lourdes hospital to be treated.

A 32-year-old man was arrested shortly after the shooting when he presented himself to Carrickmacross Garda Station. He is currently being detained in the station under section 50 of the Criminal Justice Act.

According to RTÉ, gardaí do not currently believe there was any dissident republican or gangland motive for the attack.
