Pictures: Investigation underway after man shot dead in Dublin

A burnt out car was discovered close to the scene.

GARDAÍ ARE INVESTIGATING after a man was shot dead in Dublin this morning.

The man was discovered with gunshot wounds at Grand Canal View close to St James’s Hospital just before 10.30am. He had been shot in the chest.

The man, 27, was known to gardaí and is reported to have suffered at least one gunshot wound to the chest. A car was found burnt out a short distance away at Rialto Court.

Speaking to reporters earlier, Garda Commissioner Martin Callinan said that preliminary indications are that there was a firearm found in the car.

Gardaí have appealed for anyone who was in the area of Dry Canal Bed and Rialto Court between 10am and 11am to contact them.

They have made a specific appeal for anyone travelling on the nearby Luas or at the Luas stops at Fatima or Suir Road to get in touch with the incident room which has been set up at Kilmainham Garda Station on 01 – 666 9700.
