IF YOU’RE A history buff, here’s a house you don’t want to miss having a look around.
It was used as a safe house for Michael Collins – although we’re pretty sure it didn’t look like this when he was holed up there – and it’s recently come on the market.
18 Harcourt Terrace, Dublin 2 is on sale for €1,400,000 with Felicity Fox Auctioneers via Daft.ie.
Located very close to St Stephen’s Green, this period house has been extensively renovated and has a red-brick facade and a garden path with Wicklow granite chipping.
Entering the property, the hallway has polished French oak flooring and original ceiling cornicing and picture rail. There is an original staircase with a cloakroom under and a trap door (which may have been where Michael Collins hung out…) as well as a guest bathroom with a power shower off the hallway.
The reception room to the front of the house has bay windows with original shutters and surround. There’s a restored cast-iron fireplace with Victorian surround, and original cornicing, centre piece and picture rails.
The dining room has polished French oak flooring and an original cast-iron fireplace with a tiled inset. There’s also wainscot wall-panelling and French double doors to the kitchen/dining area.
The kitchen/living/dining room is an open plan space with polished French oak flooring and a fitted Nolan kitchen. There’s an island with polished Mosa quartz countertops – as are the other countertops throughout the kitchen.
There are French doors to the garden and a wall of floor-to-ceiling glazing inset.
Additionally, downstairs there is a utility room with a polished Victoria quartz countertop and provision for a washing machine and tumble dryer.
Upstairs, the master bedroom features a bay window with sash windows, a fireplace with timber surround and slate inset, as well as an en-suite and dressing room.
The en-suite has a double shower cubicle and power shower. The dressing room has fitted wardrobes, recessed lighting and access to the attic.
The second bedroom has a built-in wardrobe and a large sash window overlooking the rear garden. It also has an en-suite with a power shower.
The third bedroom has a fitted wardrobe and wool carpet.
The attic room has wool carpets, lots of storage and could be used as an additional bedroom or guest room.
The back garden has a slate patio area as well as planted flower beds, and partly-exposed original stone walls.
There’s pedestrian access to the rear lane and off-street parking for 2 cars.
