Is that the new €10 note in your pocket or are you just happy to see me?
It’s probably just the new €10 note. They enter into circulation today.

A NEW, MORE secure, and longer-lasting version of the €10 note will enter circulation from today.

But don’t worry, any of the 2.1 billion tenners out there and that you might currently have in your wallet will remain legal tender.

The introduction of these new notes follows the same switch-over last May for €5 notes.

Both look similar to their original counterparts, but will have a different texture.

There’s also a range of new security measures introduced, such as:

  • a portrait watermark of the Greek goddess Europa
  • raised lines along the sides of the note
  • a shiny emerald colour number
  • a portrait hologram of Europa.

When holding the note up to the light, there will also be a faint image showing the value of the note, as well as a window. You will also be able to see a dark security tread and the value of the note in tiny white lettering.

There are currently more than €971 billion worth of Euro banknotes in circulation across the Eurozone, since their introduction in January 2002.

This is made up of 16.6 billion banknotes.
