FROM A 3D light show and aerial performance at the Custom House, to a live countdown concert at Stephen’s Green, there’s a lot happening in Dublin this New Year’s.
The details of Dublin’s New Year’s Festival (NYF) were announced today, with the programme featuring a host of events for adults and families over three days (30, 31 of December and 1 January).
Top of the list are two events at the Custom House on the north quays in Dublin.
The first is a spectacular 3D light show which will be projected onto the Custom House building. Called Luminosity, it will feature a different set of projections each night.
On New Year’s Eve, the light show will be joined by aerial and acrobatic dancers from the Sky Dance group, who will perform an acrobatic dance show on the Custom House.
There will be two showings of this free double display at 5pm and 7pm.
Meanwhile, across the city on New Year’s Eve the countdown concert will kick off in Stephen’s Green at 8pm. The gig will feature Dingle band Walking on Cars along with The Blizzards and Little Hours.
Other events over the three days will include the Lingo Poetry Slam, a family treasure hunt through Temple Bar, a walking tour through the northside and southside of Dublin and many other events.
Commenting on the launch of the programme today, Minister of State for Tourism and Sport, Patrick O’Donovan said Dublin was “punching well above its weight” in terms of being a destination for New Years.
“Through Fáilte Ireland and Dublin City Council, our capital city now has an event to be proud of and with the range of entertainment and events on offer expanding year on year,” he said.
I am confident that all those who take part in the New Year celebrations will be suitably impressed.
