Good news for Limerick: 400 jobs to be created by US financial company

Northern Trust announced the jobs boost for the county today.

GOOD NEWS FOR Limerick today: a major financial services company has announced it is to create 400 new jobs in the city over the next five years.

Northern Trust, which works in asset management and banking services, already employs 300 people in its Limerick office. It has also had an office in Dublin since 2000.

Minister for Jobs Richard Bruton met with senior executives from the company during a recent trade mission to the United States.

The minister described the expansion of the company as “great news for Limerick and for Ireland”.

The new jobs will be across a number of areas including traditional and hedge fund accounting, financial reporting, private equity and alternative asset management.

Northern Trust said it expects to recruit high calibre gradates from local third-level institutions, including the University of Limerick and the Limerick Institute of Technology, as well as experienced professionals from across the globe.

It is the second major jobs announcement for the west in two days. Gaming giant EA yesterday announced it is to create 300 customer service jobs in Galway.

Separately, the CSO today released statistics showing that Ireland’s unemployment rate remains unchanged at 14.8 per cent.
