Here’s what percentage of Irish people work or have worked in hospitality
According a recent survey*, over a quarter (27%) of Irish adults are currently working or have previously worked in the hospitality sector – most commonly restaurants, hotels and pubs. Of those surveyed, one in three females and one in five men have worked in hospitality.
A hospitality role offers a range of lifelong transferable skills, with participants listing customer service, teamwork, confidence, social skills, organisational skills, cash management and leadership as the most common capabilities gained via their job.
Most commonly, people began working in hospitality when between 18 and 24 years of age, with 45% of respondents saying they began their initial employment in that age range. A further 35% say they began working in hospitality when under 18 years of age.
Of those surveyed, 42% work or have worked in hospitality full time. Pocket money, help with college and pure enjoyment were the other most common reasons listed for taking a hospitality role.
*A bespoke online survey was conducted by Amárach Research to explore employment and attitudes in the hospitality industry for the Support Your Local campaign, with a nationally representative sample of 1,000 adults aged 18+ taking part.
